1. UPLOAD YOUR PES FILE

TROUBLESHOOTING: If upload fails, check the file extension is .pes and the file isn't corrupted. Most PES v5 and v6 files convert smoothly.

TROUBLESHOOTING: If the design doesn't appear, reformat your USB drive as FAT32. Some older Viking models need files in a specific directory.

PES is Brother's native embroidery format, compatible with every Brother and Baby Lock machine. PES v6 files contain stitch data, thread color assignments, a built-in design preview image, and hoop size information. It's the most widely supported format in the home embroidery market.

HUS (Husqvarna Viking) — VIKING'S NATIVE FORMAT
HUS is Husqvarna Viking's native embroidery format, used by their entire Designer, Sapphire, and Emerald machine lineup. HUS files store stitch data, thread color assignments using Husqvarna's color palette, and built-in design preview images. The format includes hoop size metadata and Viking-specific settings like hoop compensation and Mega Hoop support.

TROUBLESHOOTING_GUIDE
COLORS LOOK WRONG ON MY VIKING
PES uses Brother's color palette, which maps differently to Viking's HUS color system. The stitch data is preserved correctly — the color display is just a mapping issue. Reassign colors on your Viking machine using its built-in palette before stitching.
DESIGN WON'T FIT VIKING HOOP
The original PES file may be set for a size that doesn't match your Viking hoop. Select your machine's hoop in ThreadShifter before converting. For Designer Epic/Ruby, the Mega Hoop gives you the largest design area.
HUS FILE WON'T OPEN
Re-download the file. Check your USB format (FAT32). Some older Viking models have firmware limits on stitch count (~50,000 stitches maximum). If the PES file was very dense, the stitch count may exceed your machine's limit.
DESIGN PREVIEW NOT SHOWING
If your Viking machine shows a blank preview, the PES file's thumbnail data may not have converted cleanly. The stitch data is still correct — your machine will stitch the design properly even without a preview.
THREAD BREAKS DURING STITCHING
PES designs optimized for Brother machines may have different tension requirements. Slow down your Viking's stitch speed for dense areas. If the problem persists, the original design may need stitch density reduction.
