DST (Tajima) — THE INDUSTRY STANDARD
DST is the most widely supported embroidery format in the world. Developed by Tajima, it stores pure stitch instructions — needle drop positions, jump stitches, and thread trims. DST files are compact and work on virtually every commercial machine. The tradeoff: DST stores no thread color data, no design preview, and no machine-specific settings.

HUS (Husqvarna Viking) — VIKING'S NATIVE FORMAT
HUS is Husqvarna Viking's native embroidery format, used by their entire Designer, Sapphire, and Emerald machine lineup. HUS files store stitch data, thread color assignments using Husqvarna's color palette, and built-in design preview images. The format also includes hoop size metadata and Viking-specific machine settings like hoop compensation and stitch tension adjustments.

TROUBLESHOOTING_GUIDE
COLORS MISSING IN YOUR HUS FILE
This is expected. DST files do not store thread color information. After conversion, your Viking machine assigns default colors. Open the design on your machine and use the color palette to assign the correct threads. The stitch data itself is preserved perfectly.
DESIGN WON'T FIT YOUR VIKING HOOP
DST files may be created for larger commercial hoops. Before converting, select your Viking's hoop size in ThreadShifter's dropdown. For Designer Epic/Ruby, consider using the Mega Hoop for maximum design area.
FILE WON'T OPEN ON MY VIKING MACHINE
Try re-downloading the converted file. Check your USB format: Viking machines require FAT32. If the design still fails, the original DST may exceed the stitch limit (~50,000 stitches for most Viking models) or contain unsupported stitch types.
DESIGN IS OFF-CENTER WHEN EMBROIDERING
The DST file may have a design offset that doesn't match your Viking's center point. Re-convert with ThreadShifter and enable the centering option. If the problem persists, the original DST may have been digitized with an unusual machine origin point.
THREAD BREAKS DURING EMBROIDERY
DST files sometimes contain dense stitch patterns designed for high-speed commercial machines. Use your Viking's speed control to slow down for dense areas. If it persists, the source design may need density reduction.
