WHY_CONVERT: HUS → DST
HUS is the native format for Husqvarna Viking machines — perfect for home embroidery but not compatible with commercial production equipment. DST is the universal standard for every multi-head machine, contract embroiderer, and production facility worldwide.
ThreadShifter converts HUS to DST in under a second. No software, no account, no limits. Upload your Viking design and get a DST file ready for any commercial machine from Tajima to Barudan.
PROCEDURE // 3_STEPS
1. UPLOAD YOUR HUS FILE
Drag and drop your Husqvarna Viking HUS file onto the converter, or click to browse. Files up to 50MB accepted. Works with any HUS file from Designer, Sapphire, or Emerald series machines.
TROUBLESHOOTING: If upload fails, check the file extension is .hus and the file isn't corrupted. Most Viking files convert without issues.
2. SELECT DST AS TARGET
Choose "DST (Tajima)" from the format selector. DST is universally compatible with all commercial embroidery machines worldwide.
PRO TIP: DST doesn't store hoop size. Let your production facility know the design dimensions.
3. DOWNLOAD & SEND TO PRODUCTION
Click "Convert & Download". Your DST file is ready instantly. Send it to your production facility, upload to your multi-head machine, or share with a contract embroiderer.
TROUBLESHOOTING: Name your DST file with 8 or fewer characters (plus .dst) for maximum compatibility with older commercial machines.

UNDERSTANDING_THE_FORMATS
HUS (Husqvarna Viking) — VIKING'S NATIVE FORMAT
HUS is Husqvarna Viking's native embroidery format, used by their entire Designer, Sapphire, and Emerald machine lineup. HUS files store stitch data, thread color assignments, and built-in design preview images. The format includes hoop size metadata and Viking-specific machine settings.
FILE EXTENSION: .hus • USED BY: Husqvarna Viking, Pfaff
DST (Tajima) — THE INDUSTRY STANDARD
DST is the most widely supported embroidery format in the world. Developed by Tajima, it stores pure stitch instructions — needle drop positions, jump stitches, and thread trims. DST files are compact and work on virtually every commercial machine including Tajima, Barudan, SWF, and Happy.
FILE EXTENSION: .dst • USED BY: Tajima, Barudan, SWF, Happy, Melco
COMPATIBLE_COMMERCIAL_MACHINES
ThreadShifter outputs DST format, the universal standard read by every commercial embroidery machine in the world:
TROUBLESHOOTING_GUIDE
COLOR DATA LOST AFTER CONVERSION
This is expected. DST files do not store thread color information — they only contain stitch coordinates. After conversion, your commercial machine assigns default colors. Use your machine's color palette to assign the correct threads.
DESIGN PREVIEW NOT SHOWING
DST doesn't support design preview thumbnails. This is normal. The stitch data is correct — your commercial machine will stitch the design perfectly even though no preview is shown.
FILE NOT LOADING ON COMMERCIAL MACHINE
Re-download the file. Check the DST file size — if extremely large, the design may exceed the machine's memory. Most modern commercial machines handle DST files up to several hundred thousand stitches.
VIKING-SPECIFIC FEATURES MISSING
HUS stores Viking-specific settings like hoop compensation that DST can't carry. Your production facility may need to adjust tension and speed settings on their commercial machine — these are standard setup steps for them.
FILE NAME ISSUES
Older commercial machines use DOS-style 8.3 filenames. Keep your DST filename under 8 characters (plus .dst) for maximum compatibility. Avoid spaces and special characters.
